For thirty-four years, she stood in the front of a classroom, a beacon of knowledge and care for her students.  They adored her meticulous teaching and the conscientious way she nurtured their young minds with heart.  But the path of a dedicated teacher isn’t always paved with appreciation but the contrary.

While she poured her heart and effort into her students, she faced an unexpected challenge – her colleagues, the school principals, and the system rife with bureaucratism.  Her dedication to excellence and seriousness, sometimes misinterpreted as fuss or even distorted as non-cooperation led to confrontations with other teachers and school principals.  Despite her attempts to rectify what she saw as shortcomings, through respectful discussions and even formal complaints, her voice was often ignored or even gagged.

These experiences brought her to tears on numerous occasions. She wasn’t seeking recognition, but simply a supportive environment where all educators could work together to create the best learning experience possible for their students.

Today, she is finally honorably retired, enjoying a well-deserved life of ease.  However, her story highlights a hidden aspect of the education system – the pressure educators can face, not just from students and parents, but from within the very powerfulness they serve.

Let’s celebrate teachers like her, who dedicate their lives to igniting a love of learning in young minds.  But let’s also acknowledge the challenges they face, fostering a culture of open, honest, and equal communication within the schools, humbly admitting that schools are to cultivate civilization rather than power.

At last, one thing that demonstrates her persistence is she has dedicated herself to the same school for thirty-four years without ever considering for a moment leaving for another school. It is because she sees “teacher” as not a job but a lifetime career.
